Who would have believed that some of our kids were “rugby boys,” or that some were ruffians and thieves? Who could have imagined that Micah could be so loving or Marwen would do so well in school? And which one of them would have even dreamed of getting an education or going on to college if it were not for God’s grace and your generosity. And who would have thought that God would bring so many of them to come to Jesus as their Savior.
Thank you for being there for us and our children. You’ve made a difference in the lives of many.
In February 2010, we started out with six boys: JR, Jako, Robbie, Antony, Dennis, Saril and Michele, Juling, our helper. Today we have 26 children and a helper and two part-time assistants.
Many of our kids come from the streets of Cebu City. Several have a history of drug abuse: sniffing glue. (Glue is apparently more abundant and accessible than a McDonald’s double cheeseburger in the Philippines.) It has been claimed that the high produced by sniffing glue is a distraction from the pain of long-term-hunger.
For approximately $1.50 U.S., a child can be fed a nutritional meal made from soybeans complete with much needed vitamins. The average Filipino family spends an average of $10,000.00 Pesos a month on food. (The Philippine peso, pronounced peso is approximately 46 to 1 U.S. Dollar.)
At the inception of the orphanage there were 20 boys boys, but most have returned to the streets. When we first took over the orphanage in February there were nine children.
More than three years ago when the boys were first found, they received a bath, were fed and clothed and, given a roof over there heads.. They were so dirty that it took a dozen shampoo sachets in addition to regular soap and water to get each of the kids really clean.
By God’s glorious grace, four of the boys have now been at the orphanage three years. 23 of 26 are currently in school and most are doing very well. The children range in age from 8 to 16.
We are currently renting a three bedroom house in Talisay. There are 26 children and 5 adults. Please pray with us as we attempt to make a move toward permanent housing. We are currently praying about a specific piece of property. Please join us in prayer and believe with us for God’s provisions for the children. It is difficult to continue renting with so many children and, our needs are constantly growing. Please also pray we will be sensitive to God’s leading.
Also, please pray with us that God will meet all of our this needs.
God is moving mightily through the teachings and love of His Dwelling Christian Church and Street Kids Philippine Missions. Exciting things are happening in the church body and here at the orphanage and children’s home. Lives are being changed dramatically for good here at the orphanage and among the local body and sister churches to the glory of his wonderful name. The depth and understanding of God’s word among the Bible students continues to grow deep. Praise be to God!
